Funeral For A Friend Release New Video For Pencil Pusher

Welsh Rockers Funeral For A Friend Hit Us Up With A New Video For Pencil Pusher

What has Wales ever done for Britain? Well for a start it’s the home of one of the biggest bands of the 21st century. Of course, we are talking about Funeral for a Friend and they have just given us a sliver of their musical talent with a humorous music video accompanying “Pencil Pusher”. Not particularly family friendly song but honestly, other than middle aged, upper class mothers, who cares? I would really recommend giving this video a watch. It is taken from their new album that is due to be released by Distiller Records on the 19th of January, so not long to wait! You can also pre-order it on their website at www.funeralforafriend.com.

So the video begins with a man getting things ready for work the next day. He wakes up and is immediately in a cardboard office. Every good music deserves a title in its video and sure enough it appears… made out of cardboard. The expressionless man is working hard as a pencil pusher. As he is working through his invoice, the obvious addition of CCTV cameras raises a key issue of work. We constantly being watched while at work. Surely this affects our concentration?

Also, we are destined to work for the rest of our lives. This is illustrated when the poor man tries to leave multiple times but yet is destined to stay there for the rest of his life. Eventually the Pencil Pusher falls to the floor and suffocates in work paper. Of course, I won’t insult you by telling you what this is insinuating.

A truly political video with an Enter Shikari – like message. So what’s the lesson of the story? We are controlled by work for our whole lives, possibly true, however pessimistic.

Their new tour begins this month!
